What Do Domain Search Results Mean?

A domain search checks whether the name you want has already been registered by someone else. The system looks the name up in the extension's central registry database, and the result appears within a few seconds:

• Available: the domain is free, so you can add it to your cart and register it in your name right away.
• Registered: the domain already belongs to someone else. In that case, consider the other extensions and similar alternatives our system suggests. The name you want may also be listed among our domains for sale.

If your domain availability check shows the name is taken, you can use our Whois lookup tool to see which registrar holds it and when it expires. Even when privacy protection hides the owner details, the registrar and expiry date are usually still visible.

Domain registration means registering an available name in your name for a set period. When you buy a domain you do not get permanent ownership, but a right of use that continues as long as you renew it before it expires.

How to Choose the Right Domain Name

Your domain is your brand's address on the internet, so changing it later is both tedious and costly. Keep these criteria in mind when choosing one:

• Keep it short and memorable: names that are easy to spell when heard and easy to pronounce are remembered more easily.
• Avoid special characters: internationalised (IDN) domains with letters such as ç, ğ, ö or ü can be registered, but they can cause problems in email and sharing, so plain Latin spellings are usually preferred.
• Use hyphens and numbers sparingly: they easily cause confusion when the name is read out on the phone or in ads.
• Check trademark rights: a domain that contains someone else's registered trademark can lead to legal disputes and to losing the domain through dispute resolution procedures (for example ICANN's UDRP policy for generic extensions).

Which Domain Extension Should You Choose?

The extension is the rightmost part of a domain, separated by a dot (such as .com, .net or .com.tr), and it sends a strong signal about who your site is for. Choosing an extension that fits your audience and the type of project increases visitor trust and makes the address easier to remember.

Generic Extensions: .com, .net, .org and New gTLDs

As the best-known extension worldwide, .com is usually the first choice for brands targeting an international audience. Technology and infrastructure projects often use .net, while associations, foundations and communities widely use .org. New gTLDs (.site, .xyz, .online and others) offer far more name options, but some of them renew at a higher price than the first year. Türkiye-Specific .tr Extensions

For businesses targeting Türkiye, extensions such as .com.tr are a local trust signal. All .tr domains are registered via TRABİS (the .tr Network Information System) through accredited registrars. What to Check Before Buying a Domain

When you buy a domain name, look beyond the first-year price and think about keeping it safe for years to come. We recommend checking the following:

• Registrant details: the legal holder of a domain is the person or organisation listed as the registrant. Make sure your own name or your company's name is entered there.
• Renewal fee: compare the first-year price with the renewal fees for each extension.
• Transfer security: keep the transfer lock on to protect your domain from unauthorised transfers. Treat the EPP (transfer) code, which allows the domain to be moved to another registrar, like a password and use it only when you move the domain.
• Brand protection: registering common misspellings and the other extensions that matter for your brand helps prevent copycat sites.

What to Do After Registering Your Domain

Once your domain registration is complete, the address is yours, but a few more settings are needed before your website and email can work:

1. Name server settings: update the name servers (NS) in your customer panel to point the domain to your hosting service. DNS changes can take from a few hours up to 48 hours to propagate across the internet.
2. Email verification: for generic extensions (.com, .net and so on), ICANN rules require the registrant to verify their email address, and domains that are not verified in time may be suspended.
3. WHOIS privacy: turn on free WHOIS privacy protection for supported extensions so your personal details do not appear in public WHOIS/RDAP records.
4. Renewal tracking: add the expiry date to your calendar and renew from your customer panel before it runs out. After grace and redemption periods that vary by extension, expired domains are usually deleted and released for registration, at which point someone else may register them.
